The GEF Life Member Committee and Mrs. Sarah Duwell are proud to honor the memory of Life Member Dan Duwell by awarding the Dan Duwell Memorial Scholarship that will be presented to a student studying Mechanical Engineering. Dan was an active member and leader of the Georgia Engineering Foundation for over 30 years. He served as Treasurer from 1990 to 1997 and then as President in 1997 and 1998. In recent years he continued to participate in the Foundation’s Board of Directors meetings as a Life Member until his passing in 2010. Dan was staunchly committed to the support of programs that he felt would enhance the position of the engineering profession in the eyes of young students within the State of Georgia. He established an endowment through the Georgia Engineering Foundation in 1998 to support secondary school programs that encouraged students to pursue engineering careers. He also kept a watchful eye on the Foundation’s finances as a past treasurer. Dan was also extremely active in the Georgia engineering community serving both the Atlanta Metro Chapter of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers and the Atlanta Chapter of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
