September 26, 2020 To Whom It May Concern: I had the pleasure of being Lauren “Ellie” Schnake’s Chemistry Pre-AP teacher at Memorial High School, and am honored to write a letter of recommendation on her behalf. Miss Schnake was one of my top Chemistry students. Ellie has many of the qualities that teachers want exhibited in the classroom: a wonderful work ethic, excellent problem-solving skills, and intrinsic motivation, but her skills stretch beyond this foundation. Ellie has a curiosity for problem solving. Whether we are working in groups, independently, or having class discussion, Ellie’s brain is compiling the information in such a way that she almost “files” the information in “boxes” with in her mind. This enables her to view each new problem as a fun puzzle to be solved with an entire file cabinet of skills. If she reached a problem she had not yet created a “file” for, she did not fret or become anxious, but rather strategically asked questions for the purpose of allowing me to provide the smallest possible assistance. Once the she was able to light the fuse she was off again to solve her puzzle. It was a joy to watch her wrestle with new concepts and then turn willingly to share her insights with her classmates or group. When I inquired as to what field Lauren was interested in, she stated, “Engineering, because I enjoy my math and sciences”. And then added, “I want to make a difference in the world around me, by brainstorming ideas and deducing possible solutions to the world’s problems.” I cannot think of a better brain, or human being rather, for that lofty goal. Lauren is focused on cultivating her mind so that it is able to be a part of solving problems integral to innovations and advances in the qualities of live of those around her. This desire to help others is evident by the way she aided her classmates and by her participation in Young Life, Ozone, Junior and Senior Girls, along with the time spent at various nonprofits and her local church. Miss Schnake has also shown great intrinsic motivation and a genuine interest to be a part of the change she so desires to see. Miss Schake has started her own company, participated in a technology conference with BP (1 of 3 students selected), and held a position in student council. I believe that Miss Schnake will be an asset to any university due to her God given talent for science and mathematics, her joy of voluntarism, and her inherent drive. Please call (956)279-7000 or e-mail Baily.dizdar@springbranchisd.com if there are any other questions or concerns. Sincerely, Baily Dizdar Vanguard Teacher Transformational Learning Specialist
