RE: Reference Letter for Nia George regarding GEF Scholarships To Whom It May Concern: This letter is to recommend Nia George for the Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF) Scholarship Program. I have personally known Nia George since elementary school and have had the privilege of watching her grow into an upstanding, young adult. Nia’s mom is a civil engineer with a master’s degree in environmental engineering and has been practicing engineering in the private sector for nearly 30 years. I believe Nia got her strong work ethic from watching her mother pursue her career in the industry! Nia is one of the most driven people I know, which has been particularly impressive as she went through high school and continues into college. Nia has the unique ability to be personable and fun while doggedly working towards her goals. She was graduated in the top 10 of her class in high school and was in the National Honors Society, Key Club, and Beta Club throughout high school. She also participated in the school orchestra playing the violin from sixth grade through her senior year in high school and has played the piano since she was in kindergarten! Not only was she academically and musically talented, she also worked as a tutor since she was 16 helping elementary students with basic reading and math skills at Kumon Math and Reading. She became an assistant manager there by her senior year in high school! Nia will be successful pursuing her engineering degree at the University of Georgia and will be a great attribute to our profession not only as a woman but as a minority woman. I would be honored to call her a colleague one day and look forward to seeing her succeed in her goals. Please consider this my formal recommendation to award Nia an engineering scholarship through GEF’s Scholarship Program. Sincerely, Rhandi Gallegos, PE, LEED AP
