I am very pleased to recommend Jordan Tinsley Juhua Martin (Tinsley) for consideration as one of your scholarship recipients. Tinsley has grown up in the Greater Atlanta Christian School (GAC) community and in this time has gained the respect and affection of teachers and students alike. No one can make the grades she makes without ability, curiosity, and self-discipline. In addition, Tinsley stands out as a valued member of our student body, known for her humility and willingness to grow intellectually and in service to others. Academic excellence: Tinsley is perhaps one of the most detail oriented students I have worked with. Recognized by our top academic honor societies, Tinsley has maintained a strong GPA and cementing her standing as an Honor Graduate while completing 8 honors courses, 3 dual credit courses and 3 AP courses. She cares deeply about learning, and consistently looks for ways to fill in details or gaps so that she understands new concepts and ideas. She has faced an obstacle or two in our tough college prep curriculum with a late diagnosis of a learning difference in the 10th grade, but through her hard work, tenacity and willingness to try new things, she overcame these difficulties and is a stronger more confident student. This comment is typical of what her teachers say of Tinsley: “Tinsley is thoughtful, deep and competitive. I appreciate her positive attitude and her ability to never give up through very difficult material. She encourages other students, attends to details, and strives to always give her best efforts. It is a joy to teach such an academically curious student .” Involved in the student community: Tinsley has been selected for our highly selective Chapel Practicum student group, responsible for planning and implementing chapel for the entire student body each week. She has held the role of team manager for the wrestling team, helped with films for the football team, played on our girl’s Lacrosse team, and worked in our summer camp (Grow) for younger students. Tinsley’s contribution to each of these efforts has made them stronger and more cohesive. Tinsley is a very loyal person, and known for her high level of integrity. She is very kind hearted and generous to others. There is definitely “no one left behind” when Tinsley is involved and each of these groups is better for having her involved. Finally, Tinsley is small in stature but fiercely determined in all that she does! Adopted from an orphanage in China, Tinsley was a very tiny infant and developmentally behind. The love and support of devoted parents saw her become a strong and intelligent young woman who is sensitive and giving to others in need. This shows itself in many ways including her devotion to our school’s missions’ efforts, serving on multiple missions trips, leading efforts for shoe drives, food drives, working with the Special Olympics, and writing letters to soldiers serving out of the country in harm’s way. Tinsley is full of life, thankful for the blessings in her life and finds great joy in giving to others. Combining academic excellence every day in every class, generosity, humility, teamwork, and community service, Tinsley holds the promise to be an exemplary university student just as she has been a grand high school student. She is a talented, hard-working, friendly, thoughtful young lady and she will contribute much to the collegiate institution that decides to attend. I am so pleased to offer my strongest recommendation in support her application for your scholarship competition, she will well represent your program and its ideals. Sincerely, Lori S.
