Young, Adam I am delighted to recommend a highly intelligent, witty, and perhaps the most enthusiastic student I have taught and mentored in my decades of teaching. Adam will graduate from Holy Spirit Preparatory School (HSP), Atlanta, with a 4.3 grade point Average having distincted himself in the Sciences, Mathematics, Social Sciences, English and English Literature, Music, leadership, volunteering, and altar serving at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. I taught Adam Classical Medieval History in the 9th grade. In that course, he pursued understanding of the structure of the ideas, with the desire to learn, and be an active member of the classroom community. Adam was known for taking an unpopular position on a topic so he could persuade his classmates to his point of view. On countless occasions, he would win arguments by researching and devoting time to mastering the core ideas and presenting them convincingly. HSP offers a classical curriculum with a wide range of courses. The workload is relatively heavy, so good grades are not easy to come by. It, however, prepares students for courses in law, medicine, business, and education. In his graduating class, Adam ranks in the top 3% of students having distinguished himself not only academically, but with a good sense of traditional Catholic values, and a strong work ethic. I believe that Adam’s high school career has prepared him for scholarly work and executive learning challenges. In addition, he is socially and emotionally mature. He has a good sense of himself in terms of interests, and values, with a consistent focus, a critical factor underlying his high achievement. He can work collaboratively and independently with an assertive attitude when necessary to help him navigate his way through the myriad of academic and social options open to him. At the same token, Adam will commit to volunteering and leading in musical programs, while pursuing the intrinsic driving force in him, mechanical engineering. This young man is both gifted and rounded with an inquisitive mind; a thirst for knowledge and how to employ such ideas in problem-solving and decision-making. Adam is a decent guy, with a strong conviction in the Catholic faith. He is principled and capable of making friends across social groups. If fortunate to be admitted to your program, he will be a valued member of your school community who brings sound leadership skills to enrich it. It is my honor to unreservedly recommend Adam for the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. Thank you, Faithfully, Archie K. Deen, Ph.D. Faculty at HSP, 2005-2022 Berkmar High School, 2022-present Department Chair Advanced Placement Courses
