September 18th, 2024 To Whom It May Concern, It is with great pleasure I write this recommendation letter for Jonathan Williams toward his application toward Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. Jonathan is a undergraduate assistant in my lab where he performs research on AI in Manufacturing. In his work, he exhibits his engineering and design knowledge by analyzing various manufacturing processes both from a numerical (can it be done) and pragmatic (should it be done) approach. His ability to focus and complete the tasks given to him was apparent as he was always on time and prepared in class, an indication of his dedication and character. Jonathan was very well organized in his documentation, ensuring his work was always diligent, clear and detailed. Jonathan was not simply a student searching for an “A,” rather he was a young man seeking to become as knowledgeable in the material as possible, a trait few students possess. Jonathan displayed great sense of attentiveness within course as he continually focused on the material presented, asking many questions and inquiring of different engineering applications. He performed excellent in the lab and demonstrated, throughout many instances, his ability to apply the material he learned. Throughout the semesters, I detected Jonathan’s keen sense of awareness for engineering fundamentals as he was always able to view a problem or situation and understand the boundaries of the problem. He could view a problem, regardless of size and complexity, and use his knowledge to formulate a method for analysis. Outside of class, Jonathan would inquire on the topics discussed in the course. He continually asked questions that could assist him in improving his knowledge, past that of what is expected of an A+ student. His duties included managing lab equipment, supervising students operating the equipment, developing operations and lab manuals, grading lab reports, and addressing student questions and concerns. Throughout his engagement with the lab, Jonathan was very dependable and professional. I could count on him to do what he needed to do to run the lab successfully with minimal supervision. Throughout the semester students commented on how well he worked alongside them to help them understanding the experimentation. Overall, I was very satisfied with Jonathan and rank him as one of the best undergraduate research assistants I have ever hired. Throughout my interactions with Jonathan, he was able to display he was a dependable and responsible young man. I am sure he will serve as a model recipient to the scholarship and I am happy to give him my wholehearted endorsement. Sincerely, Beshoy Morkos, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering College of Engineering
