Dear Georgia Engineering Foundation, My name is Marcus DiBattista and I am a Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. student, studying in the Innovation Factory research lab at the University of Georgia. I am writing to you in very strong support of Jonathan Williams, an outstanding Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student at the University of Georgia. I have known Jonathan since November 2023, when he was hand-selected by his teachers at Athens Community Career Academy to work in our lab due to his academic, professional, and personal excellence. Through my time supervising Jonathan in his work-based learning and now college journey, I’ve seen that he is always willing to learn and to put forth the effort to accomplish or learn anything, and with a great attitude. Jonathan has taken any task we have him do in stride, whether he knows how to do it or not or whether he has to work with his hands or with his brain, he is always eager to learn how to do it and get better. Due to this eagerness to learn, Jon has grown remarkably in his skillset and already displays impressive engineering design skills from 3D Modeling and 3D Printing, to working with Machine Learning algorithms and sensorized microchips. His skills and work ethic have been of great help in our lab, and our people truly enjoy Jonathan’s presence. His passions outside of engineering including music and fitness are also very admirable and make me confident in his ability to branch out and pursue the things that he loves. As a recent Mechanical Engineering Graduate and a current Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. student, I can confirm that Jonathan would be an excellent candidate for any scholarship in engineering. In this short time, Jonathan has proven that his exceptional work ethic, drive, communication skills, and personality make him a perfect fit to truly excel not only as an engineering student, but also as an engineering professional. If you have any additional questions about Jonathan, please feel free to contact me at marcus.dibattista@uga.edu. Sincerely, Marcus DiBattista Graduate Research & Teaching Assistant University of Georgia College of Engineering
