It is with great pleasure that write to you this letter of recommendation for Riley Burdette. I have known Riley for over 3 years and in that time, I’ve seen her grow as an athlete, as a scholar, and as a person. From the athlete perspective, I have seen her take on obstacles that most adults would shy away from. I mention this because it’s important to understand that Riley is a fighter; even when she had tough Olympics lift practice or when she would face off against more experienced opponents. Her ability to push through PR’s or on the field injuries is a true example of how determined this young lady is. From the scholar perspective, you are looking at a student who continuously shows up to learn. From our first encounters GT, Engineering, and rollercoasters were a reoccurring conversation. When a student is this driven and determined at an early age it is nearly impossible to derail that type of forward of thinking. She graduated at the top of her class, she got into the school of her dream, and she is pursuing her dream job. From the perspective of being human, she has talked to me about the things she was once down on herself about and I’ve watched her make decisions to overcome those challenges. Additionally, she has volunteered numerous hours at our Gym working with Parkison’s patients. So not only is Riley driven and motivated by personal goals but she also takes the time out of her busy life to care for others. I have never had a negative interaction with Riley and neither will you nor the GA Engineering Foundation. I understand that athletes aren’t rare, I know that smart athletes are not rare, and I understand smart, kind-hearted athletes are not rare. But what is rare is Riley Burdette. I can promise you that she is a one of a kind human being. We need more students, more woman that are like Riley. I could go on and on praising Riley and the work she has done but I will leave you with this notion. If we are not focused on the future then we are failing. If we don’t put women like Riley in positions to be successful and to be seen then we are failing. When you think of “ROI” Return on investments, investing in Riley will yield nothing but positive returns. Terrence Banks Assoc.
