To whom it may concern, Calvin Washburn is an excellent candidate to receive the Georgia Engineering Foundation scholarship. He is a wonderful, well-rounded young man with a personality that simply lights up a room. I enjoyed teaching Calvin in my Advanced Placement US History class. He is a determined student and a hard worker in class. His participation in class discussions showed preparation and a level of interest that is refreshing to see. He submitted quality assignments in a timely manner and took great pride in his work. Calvin took many AP courses while attending North Forsyth High School. By choosing to take a more rigorous course load, he has demonstrated a desire to succeed at a much higher level than most of his peers. Calvin was always willing to help other students learn the material and served as a peer mentor for our AP Writing Workshop. He was a great role model to other students and is admired by his teachers. What always impressed me was his innate ability to combine academics and extra-curricular activities while maintaining a friendly, approachable, demeanor to all students. His involvement in numerous activities and clubs has given him the opportunity to mentor underclassmen and relationships that allow him to serve as a positive influence on others. He was selected by his teachers to receive several awards that honor his determination and positive attitude. If I can be of any further assistance in your selection of Calvin for the Georgia Engineering Foundation scholarship, please do not hesitate to contact me at mcombs@forsyth.k12.ga.us or (770) 402-0725.
