Álvaro Romero-Calvo (alvaro.romerocalvo@gatech.edu)

Dear Sir or Madam, It is my pleasure to nominate Justin Effendi for the 2024 Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF) Scholarship program. I am his undergraduate research advisor at the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech, where I lead the Low-Gravity Science and Technology Laboratory and serve as a faculty member. Justin joined our group in the Fall 2022 semester to study the dynamics of liquid propellants in rocket launch stages. He successfully completed our initial training assignments, consisting of a series of tasks designed to provide a solid mathematical background on the topic. He subsequently helped create our software development team, which is programming an open-source suite on propellant sloshing that will be used by industry partners. He is now leading said team and ramping up new students with the goal of publishing a conference paper at the 2024 Guidance, Navigation, and Control meeting of the American Astronautical Society. In addition to his significant research contributions, Justin has played a central role in bringing our team together. He generates a positive work environment and actively tries to make his labmates feel comfortable as they advance in their research. Justin is also a great photographer (his work has even been featured by Georgia Tech's press office) and he has always been happy to give a hand with scientific imaging or just general photography. Overall, working with him is a real pleasure. In my opinion, Justin has the professional and personal traits to qualify for the 2024 Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF) Scholarship. Shall he be given the opportunity to join your cohort of students, I'm sure he will be up to your expectations. Sincerely, Álvaro Romero-Calvo, PhD Assistant Professor Georgia Institute of Technology
