September 21, 2023 Georgia Engineering Foundation Attn: Scholarship Review Committee Harris Tower, Suite 700 233 Peachtree Street Atlanta, GA 30303 RE: Letter of Support for Ms. Suvu Gurung for the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarships Dear Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship Review Committee, With the strongest possible support, I recommend Suvu Gurung for this year’s Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF) Scholarship. I have only known Suvu since March 2023 when she applied for and was accepted into our prestigious First Year Scholars Program (FYSPS) within the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA). Suvu is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering degree at UGA and is currently enrolled in my First Year Seminar: Engineering Exploration, Leadership, and Service this semester. I have been quite impressed with Suvu! I have found her to be determined, well-informed, and very disciplined. In my opinion, the three best characteristics that most accurately describe Suvu are dedication, studious behavior, and personable qualities. In my opinion, she is most deserving for selection of a GEF scholarship this year. The FYSP for which Suvu was selected supports students actively pursuing an engineering degree who demonstrate a financial need and an interest in promoting underrepresented and underserved groups in engineering. My observations of Suvu thus far have led me to see an individual that is dedicated to her work, respectful to her peers, and possesses a desire to help others. Her approach to most every task she is faced with is to always look at the bigger, more global picture. I am confident that Suvu will continue to find ways to be impactful for her community and profession in future years. I have no doubt that Suvu will have great impact through her future endeavors within and beyond our programs at UGA. Suvu is truly exceptional and I will be excited to learn of all the wonderful things she has accomplished during her time at UGA and beyond. Although she is only a first-year student, she is already become engaged and committed to the activities necessary to succeed in her academic studies. What has been most exciting about Suvu is that she enters her academic program at UGA already having engineering internship experience. She worked as a Process Engineering intern for the Dennis Group in Duluth, GA from September 2022 through April 2023. Her responsibilities during this work experience have not only strengthened her desire to pursue engineering but also given her confidence in her abilities as a future engineer. Suvu is a fantastic candidate for GEF Scholarship and I strongly recommend her to you without reservation. If you have any additional questions, please contact me by phone at 706-542-9480 or by email at sdurham@uga.edu. Sincerely, Stephan A. Durham, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE Assistant Dean for Student Success and Outreach Professor
