September 18, 2023 Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee Harris Tower, Suite 700 233 Peachtree Street Atlanta, Georgia 30303 Dear Members of the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship Committee, I am honored to write this letter of recommendation for Suvu Gurung, a truly exceptional candidate for the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. I had the privilege of working closely with Suvu during her high school years, and her achievements, leadership, and dedication to her community have consistently impressed me. While I interacted with Suvu mainly as her senior year advisement class advisor, I had the opportunity to observe her dedication and commitment as a two-year member of HoPe (Hispanic Organization Promoting Education). Her exceptional commitment to community service and leadership within HoPe left a profound impression on me. Suvu consistently volunteered and followed through with her commitments, participating enthusiastically in events such as crafting motivational cards for hospital workers and dedicating over 12 hours in just one day to volunteer at a schoolwide Haunted House fundraiser event. Her commitment to helping her peers within our senior advisement group was equally remarkable on a consistent basis. Despite not having taught Suvu in an academic class, I became aware of her academic and entrepreneurial achievements as her senior advisor. Her role as President of the Computer Science Honor Society and her efforts in teaching coding to young children prove her strong foundation in Computer Science. Furthermore, her leadership in organizing community service events to promote Computer Science highlights her remarkable communication skills and her dedication to education. Suvu's entrepreneurial spirit shines through her food blog, "Sweet-Free Ecstasy," dedicated to providing low-sugar recipes for diabetics. I was impressed to learn that she coded her own website! This, plus her ability to create content and effectively promote her blog demonstrates the level of creativity, technical skills, and dedication to positively impact others’ lives through her passion for food and health. Suvu has consistently shown qualities of optimism, curiosity, initiative, and ambition that will drive her success in all aspects of her life. The fact that she will be the first in her family pursuing a college degree makes her a trailblazer and a beacon of hope for future generations. In conclusion, Suvu Gurung is an outstanding student with a profound passion for engineering, a strong commitment to her community, and a demonstrated ability to excel academically. I have full confidence that she will continue to impress and inspire those around her while on her journey in Biological Engineering at the University of Georgia. I truly believe she is highly deserving of the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship, and wholeheartedly recommend her for this prestigious award. Please feel free to contact me if you require any additional information or have any questions regarding this recommendation. Sincerely, Lucia Trevino Paul Duke STEM High School 5850 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. Norcross, GA 30071 High School Spanish Teacher HoPe sponsor Spanish National Honor Society co-sponsor Lucia.Trevino@gcpsk12.org
