7 September, 2023 To whom it may concern: Please accept this letter as my enthusiastic, unreserved recommendation of Mr. Ray Choi for admittance and scholarship to your university. Ray is a wonderful young man who has proven himself to be one of the most reliable, talented, respectful, kind, and hard working individuals that I know. I believe that he will be an asset to any school that he may attend and will be successful in his time there. I served as Ray’s band director for three years. His first year with me, he was a digital student for the first half of the year. He was able to stand out as a remarkable musician and student even when not in the building. I remember vividly hearing him play audition materials for me for the first time and being truly blown away by what he was able to glean from class and transfer into his playing through a computer screen. Since his return to in-person learning, Ray has continued to grow as a player, a leader, and a person. He is a remarkable musician who provides leadership to those around him, but he is also a remarkable human being that others look to for leadership and guidance. He has served as a soloist in every group he plays with, He has been a member of the district honor band, the Georgia All-State Band, and the Atlanta Wind Symphony in his time at Buford. What is truly remarkable to me is that he has achieved all of this without studying privately - which over 90% of members in these groups do. This feat is more impressive than most understand, but his desire for greatness has allowed him to succeed where most others cannot. Ray is also one of the most genuinely wonderful students that I have worked with in my twenty four years as a teacher. I have never heard him say a negative thing about anyone nor have I ever heard anyone say anything negative about him. He is almost always smiling and making those around him smile as well. He is a student that I trust and rely on, and I believe that he will be that student for his university. I truly believe that Ray will be a great asset wherever he attends college and will make that place better for his presence there. He has always been someone that I can count on and that her peers respect and value. He is reliable and dedicated, as well as being a truly wonderful human being. Beyond this, he is a truly fine young musician. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if I can offer any more information about Luis that might assist in making your decision. Sincerely, Erik Mason Director of Bands Buford High School erik.mason@bufordcityschools.org (770)367-2243
