Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship August 9, 2023 Recommendation of Keira Mapel Dear Sir/Madam, I teach AP Physics and Physics CP at Camden County High School. I have been teaching these courses for more than eighteen years and teaching high school science courses for twenty-nine years. Keira Mapel was enrolled in my Advanced Placement Physics 1 course during the fall of her junior year. She also took my Advanced Placement Physics C: Mechanics course during the fall of her senior year. She has consistently taken the most rigorous courses offered at our high school including Advance Placement(AP) Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Calculus. Keira is an intelligent young woman with an excellent work ethic. She quickly learns and then applies concepts correctly. Camden County High School is on a four-by-four block schedule, with full year courses taught in one semester. This causes us to move quickly through material without much regard to the difficulty level of advanced courses. Keira has had no difficulty learning and applying advanced concepts at this quick pace in her AP Physics courses. Keira is self-motivated and goal oriented. I do not need to demand her best effort; she demands that from herself. She is methodical in her work, researching answers on her own as well as asking for in-depth information in class. She often looks deeper into the material than required by the curriculum to get a better understanding of how different concepts relate to each other. She is meticulous in her lab work, taking the time to get good experimental results rather than rushing to get through a procedure. Keira was part of the Science Bowl team that I sponsor and coach. She joined during her junior year. She competed with her team and won the subregional competition in February. The team continued on to compete in the state competition on March 4, 2023. Keira is well liked by her peers. They often defer to her when working in a small group to answer questions. She helps her lab partner in the analysis of data and often leads her lab partners through the lab procedures. She is friendly, kind, and has a good sense of humor. Most of my AP Physics students are in the top 20% of their class in rank. I rank Keira in the top 5% of the students I have taught. She has a strong interest in the sciences and mathematics. She also has the intellectual ability and self-discipline to successfully pursue her interests. I recommend her for your scholarship without reservation.
