RE: Letter of Support for Mr. Rudra Patel for the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarships Dear Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship Review Committee, With the strongest possible support, I recommend Rudra Patel for this year’s Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF) Scholarship. I have only known Rudra since March 2022 when he applied for and was accepted into our prestigious first cohort of the University of Georgia College of Engineering’s First Year Scholars Program (FYSPS). Rudra is currently enrolled in my First Year Seminar: Engineering Exploration, Leadership, and Service this semester. He has been one of the hardest working students in the class and has thus far performed exceptionally well on all the course assignments. The FYSP for which Rudra was selected supports students actively pursuing an engineering degree who demonstrate a financial need and an interest in promoting underrepresented and underserved groups in engineering. Within his program application, I recall Rudra speaking about his desire to gain an engineering degree and use it to serve others less fortunate. His goal is to complete his biological engineering degree, become a surgeon, and provide services to individuals in need of medial attention. This doesn’t surprise me as I have also witnessed his caring and compassionate behavior toward his peers when he puts the needs of others before his own. Academically, Rudra is an excellent student to have in class. He has the ability to create excitement around activities and motivate others through his engaging and bright personality. Rudra is always an active participant during class lectures. His questions in and outside of class demonstrate to me that he not only understands the material but is thinking beyond the concepts discussed within the course. Further, these questions often generate great discussion in class. Lastly, he is well-liked by his peers. In regards to intellectual curiosity and capability, Rudra is excellent. Rudra is a fantastic candidate for GEF Scholarship and I strongly recommend him to you without reservation. If you have any additional questions, please contact me by phone at 706-542-9480 or by email at sdurham@uga.edu. Sincerely, Stephan A. Durham, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE Assistant Dean for Student Success and Outreach Professor
