Shawna Reed (shawna.reed@gcpsk12.org)

September 27, 2022 To whom it may concern, I am writing this letter in regards to Marin Shappert, an exceptional student and young woman. I met Marin when I was fortunate enough to be her Freshman Gifted Biology teacher. She was an outstanding worker, fiercely creative and a brilliant problem solver. Her projects for Biology were top notch and she consistently demonstrated higher level understanding of content. When given the opportunity to lead, she not only stepped up but proved to be a wonderful servant leader whose group members had the utmost respect for and were better for being in her group. Marin continued her academic excellence in her career at North Gwinnett. She graduated with a 4.0 (4.2 weighted) G.P.A. , was an honor graduate and top 10% in her class. In her four years at North she took 7 AP courses including AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, AP World History and AP Statistics. Her AP exam scores are as stellar as she is with 4s and 5s in many of her courses. Her academic excellence has afforded her the opportunity to attend The University of Georgia. Marin’s interests are not limited to what she does in the classroom. She is an incredible theater performer and took part in a number of musicals throughout her high school career. Her passion for theater and music is evident in what she’s done. She was the student music director for Competition Class all four years of high school. She was a student director her senior year and she was a member of the International Thespian Society. She also performed in local theater in the lead role of Elsa in Frozen and The Magic Carpet in Aladdin. To watch Marin perform on stage is to witness talent, passion and pure joy! Marin’s passion is not limited to Theater and Science. She worked on the Administrative Council at Duluth United Methodist Church, was a part of the North Gwinnett Student Leadership Team (NGSLT) and was a leader in Girl Up. As President of Girl Up, she ran meetings, organized service projects and helped grow membership. Marin truly seeks out opportunities for servant leadership and thrives in various environments. Marin will be an asset to the College of Engineering program. She is passionate about the world and making genuine change. She is a true servant leader, who puts others before herself. She is outstanding academically but that does not prevent her from venturing out and enjoying other interests. She impressed me the day I met her and has continued to do so over the past four years. Sincerely, Shawna L Reed (Shawna L. Reed) Biology Course Team Lead (North Gwinnett High School)
