As a family friend, as a pastor at her church, and as her choir director since she was in preschool choir, is an honor to write this letter of recommendation for Marin Shappert. From the time I met Marin, I knew this was a special person. So smart, talented, outgoing, thoughtful, and kind. Marin could carry on an adult conversation, and she was only three years old. And now, fourteen years later, that bright child has grown into an incredible adult. From her application, and likely the other letters of recommendation, you will no doubt read about her numerous accomplishments in academics, theater, outreach, etc. Those qualities alone make her an outstanding candidate for acceptance. But what sets Marin apart are qualities that make her an outstanding human being. Humility: Marin is extremely confident in herself as a person, as an academic, as a singer and actor, but that confidence is not arrogance. She is genuinely humble in her interactions with others and in the way she receives praise. And she constantly works to be the very best she can be in all areas. Generosity: If someone is in need – financially, emotionally – Marin will find a way to help them. This was instilled in her by her family. When any of the four of them sees a need, the whole family rallies to provide as best they can. Thankfulness and Appreciation: Marin is blessed with an incredible family, with brilliance, and with so many talents, but she never takes those things for granted. She is quick to give thanks to God, to her family, and to those who love and support her. I am most impressed, however, by her appreciation for others – not for what they do for her, but for their accomplishments, their aspirations. She loves people, and she cheers just as hard for a complete stranger as should would for her own sister. And her sister is her best friend. For all these reasons, and so many more, I highly recommend Marin Shappert, and I look forward to all that she will accomplish as a student at your university. If you need an additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, David David B.
