September 26, 2022 To Whom it May Concern. I am writing this reference on behalf of Lonnie France White, III for your consideration for the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. I had the pleasure of getting to know Lonnie through his academic successes, recognitions, and leadership that he exhibited daily at North Gwinnett High School over the last four years. Academically, Lonnie had a solid and impressive record. From his commitment to take the most rigorous courses available, Lonnie maintained a high level of success in his classes and drew the attention of his teachers as one of the best. Lonnie took and exceeded in 13-Advanced Placement courses throughout his high school career. In addition, Lonnie maintained a 4.40 GPA—a humbling and remarkable achievement considering the rigorous class load he elected to pursue. Further, Lonnie worked to obtain the AP Capstone Seal, one of the first in our school’s history, as well as an Engineering Pathway Seal. These accomplishments separated him from his peers and qualified him as one of our finest and most elite academic students. In addition to Lonnie’s impressive academic successes, what truly sets him apart are his core values and commitments. Lonnie was not just active in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities since his freshmen year, but instead, he devoted and committed his energy, buy-in, and work into all of his activities. His value of “all-in” is a trait that I do not witness regularly. When I do, it is refreshing to see and most importantly, it stands out as an example and a beacon to others about how we all can aspire to be. His work with Relay for Life, for example, is a testament to his personal commitment to raising money and awareness for research that will ultimately make an impact. In addition to service, he was also a successful student-athlete. Lonnie’s sports included swimming, track and field, and cross-country. During his swim team experience, he helped to lead our boys team to consecutive state swim titles—a first in North Gwinnett history. His progression and improvement as a 4-year swimmer was thrilling to watch, all validated by multiple awards and recognitions by the team along the way. In fact, all of his work with his activities and sports made a positive and noticeable difference. His impact was measurable, visible, and lasting on the North Gwinnett Campus. On a personal level, I was lucky and fortunate to work with and follow Lonnie very closely throughout his high school career. What sets Lonnie apart is that his success is far more than his resume and accomplishments indicate—it is in the value he finds in all people and his relentless commitment to do the right thing. He is genuine, empathetic, conscientious, and passionate in all that he does and because of these traits, I am honored to extend one of my highest recommendations for Lonnie. His successes, traits, and intrinsic motivation will allow him to continue to impact his community immediately. I look forward to following his journey and celebrating his successes and accomplishments in the future. Thank you for your consideration of Lonnie for this scholarship at Georgia Tech. I would be more than happy to discuss Lonnie’s successes at any time. Sincerely, Nathan Ballantine Principal 770-271-5160
