To whom it may concern, I am very pleased to write a recommendation letter for Sara Mesihovic in respect to her application for scholarship at the Georgia Engineering Foundation. I had the good fortune of meeting Sara 12 years ago and have seen her mature into a responsible young lady any mother would be proud to call her own. Her repertoire includes coaching swimmers with special needs - encouraging them to give their best, mentoring, and tutoring on the side. She is one of the few leaders who knows what it takes to truly inspire – both younger mentees as well as peers. Interestingly Sara was one of the shy younger swimmers who worked hard but was always under the radar since she did not voice any complaints – even during the harder swim sets. Now she is outspoken when it matters, trustworthy, hardworking, intelligent, and most of all a compassionate young woman with the drive to accomplish anything she puts her mind to – anything. I made her captain of our varsity swim team this year and she more than exceeded my expectations. As her swim coach for a dozen years, I have seen Sara’s work ethic and desire to fix her strokes improve substantially while her friends gave Emmy-winning performances on why they were too tired, hurt, or sick to complete the time intervals – this being said I can attest to the fact that she will never give up. Her perseverance to continue improving is one example of dedication. She suffered a severe concussion a couple of years ago during swim practice and worked patiently and persistently to get back to where she previously was when released to swim – 6 months later. She is in my 1st period AP Literature class and is continually one of the first to grasp themes that are embedded between the lines and is the quiet leader everyone listens to when teamwork is required. She is at the top of a class filled with overachievers – a 4.0 lands most students in the top 25th percentile at our school so her 4.3 is evidence of her commitment to excellence. The challenges presented will be handled with the same finesse she has shown in the light of adversity and with the same drive for perfection she embraces in life. Academically, athletically, compassionately, and ethically – Sara Mesihovic will bring a special atmosphere and will definitely be a leader on many fronts, deserving this opportunity with the Georgia Engineering Foundation. Sincerely, Kerry Langley
