Steve Epperson (steve.epperson@cherokeek12.net)

I first met Ella three years ago when she was in the 10th grade and sitting in my AP Physics 1 class. Even now, I can still distinctly remember her and while she did not say much, her body language screamed, “I can get this”, and she did. I quickly learned that she is a processor. In other words, she is constantly trying to understand the information on her own. But, when she was stuck, she would ask questions – good questions, ones that challenged me (or rather most of the time correcting me because I misspoke on a topic). Her high school academic record speaks for itself, and her collegiate record has yet to be recorded. Nonetheless, she knows her field of study is Aerospace Engineering and has already embraced it by joining Design Build Fly in which teams build a small plane. Obviously she will start in more of a learning role but I suspect by next semester she will take a more active role in that club. She has also joined the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) to begin her journey into a professional society. To help keep her grounded with her academic life, she has also joined Navigators, a campus ministry (please don’t hold that pun against her). Ironically, in an earlier recommendation letter I noted that Ella has integrity, honesty, and a well-balanced character. These are some of the intangibles that are not captured in any academic record. Ella is a hardworking, responsible, driven young lady that you would not expect to get from her quiet, unassuming, humble exterior. There is no limit to this young lady. She is the type of student that makes the school she is at, a better school.
