To whom it may concern: Dan Ha I will have had the pleasure of teaching “Dan” for four classes, Introduction to Digital Technology, Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, and Programming Games Applications and Society (spring 2022) during his high school career. He has a wonderful personality and gets along well with others. Dan knows when to keep things light and knows when to be serious. I have loved watching him chuckle at himself over the years. Regarding his worth ethic, he is an exemplary student. He is a very hard worker and is not afraid to ask questions if he does not understand a concept or requires clarification. Problem solving skills are essential to ensure success in Computer Science and Dan is very skilled in problem solving. Dan is a member of our school’s School of Engineering and has been since 9th grade. Being part of this program has instilled a great work ethic in him and enhanced his problem-solving skills. His work is always accurate and handed in on time. He is very meticulous with every task that he undertakes. Dan is an outstanding student. Dan is the 22nd student in his graduating class out of 200! He has received many academic awards, recognitions, and nominations over the course of his high school career at Jenkins. Dan will make an excellent engineer/programmer. He has many of the top qualities needed to be an engineer or programmer. He is very analytical, can think logically, and has great problem-solving skills. I observed all these traits firsthand in my programming classes. Dan can always come up with a solution to the most advanced programming problems that I gave them. He also could think outside the box and approach problems in ways different from his classmates, and still have them work. In computer science, Dan exhibited his ability to pay attention to detail. Programming requires attention to detail while entering code and paying attention to is supposed to happen is essential to creating a program that works correctly. He rarely has any syntax errors (that he could not figure out) and his programs always worked correctly. Dan pushes himself by taking a rigorous course load, a requirement in the School of Engineering. He has taken 7 AP classes and has passed all seven. In my AP Computer Science class, he earned a 5. He was taking my AP Computer Science class when we were sent home March 13, 2020, for COVID and never returned to school. Dan never stopped working hard when many students shut down not being in school. He continued to attend my FRQ practices and worked very hard even though we were totally virtual. Although we wrote an abbreviated exam that year, being an AP reader, I believe he would have still earned a 5 on a full-length exam. His other scores were 4 in AP Human Geography, 5 in AP Calculus AB, 5 in AP Language and Composition, 5 in AP Calculus BC, and 3 in AP Physics 1. The fact that Dan took AP Government when he was in middle school and passed with a 4 is testament to his desire to learn and work hard. Dan is always looking for opportunities to challenge himself and learn new information. Dan also participated for 3 years in the Engineering Explorer post in Savannah to get insight into the field of engineering. During his final semester he participated in a mentoring program put on by Southern Automation Logistics & Technology (SALT) to get an understanding of program development and real-world problems. I have watched Dan mature over the past 4 years into a confident young man. He has a wonderful personality and gets along well with others. Dan has been a very involved member of our school. He was inducted into National Honor Society during his sophomore year (earliest induction) and elected as Junior Vice President. He has been intensely involved in Robotics since his freshman year. Many of the other activities that Dan participates in are STEM activities such as Engineering Design Challenge, Math Club, Engineering Explorer Post, Smart Sea Level Sensor Project, and VEX Robot Competitions. Dan is a leader; other students follow him because they have a great deal of respect for him. He is charismatic and has a great personality which causes other students to gravitate to him. In many of the activities he has had leadership roles; President and Safety Captain in Robotics; Engineering Design Captain; National Honor Society Junior Vice President and Project Manager/Historian; Math Club Vice President and Recruiter; and Vex Robotics the Student Coach. Dan can lead. In 12th grade, Dan organized 50 NHS (National Honor Society) students to operate a Rock ‘n Roll water station in Savannah. Dan has been chosen as a representative of our school on several occasions. He has been on our division’s school reopening task force, the superintendent’s senate, and a member of our school’s outreach to middle schools. He’s made numerous media and video productions for the school. Dan is very dependable and is the go-to guy. He’s always willing to roll up his sleeves and help. Our school is really going to miss him. He has also been active in the community. His involvement indicates his love of robotics. He has spent countless hours volunteering as a Robotics Camp Counsellor, First Robotics mentor for other neighboring schools, and refereeing kids Lego Robot Competitions. He enjoys sharing his love of robots with others. He continues to come back to our school to help our Robotics team. Dan also volunteers in the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon and Second Harvest Brown Bag. He was also chosen by our School District to present a speech of what Public School means to him at the Georgia School Boards Association summer conference summer 2021. Dan’s speech was amazing. The fact he stood in front of over 100 adults he didn’t know and gave his speech is exceptional for a high school student. One can tell that Dan has a strong desire to succeed; I believe that he knows what he wants and is prepared to work to achieve it. It is evident that he will be a life-long learner. He is a great student and person. Your scholarship will help him to achieve the career he wants in the future. I would not hesitate in recommending Dan for your scholarship!!
