September 28, 2021 Dear Sir or Madam: I am privileged to write in support of John Hinson for a Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. I was honored to have taught John in Advanced Placement Biology and the biotechnology pathway courses. Over the course of four years, John showed immense enthusiasm and passion for all if his science classes. All of John’s core classes were Honors and Advanced Placement as well as many electives. John’s maturity and motivation to learn contribute to his success as a student; his conscientious work ethic is evident with successful completion of demanding academic curricula throughout his high school career. John thrives to understand and learn and is incredibly hard working. In the classroom, John confidently participated in both cooperative and independent settings and demonstrates the critical thinking processes necessary for application of content to real-world circumstances. He is able to efficiently construct meaning from learned material and consistently perform well on assessments. John values collaborative activities and diversity in experiences and perspectives, as indicated by his communication skills observed during group projects. John also views feedback and self-reflection as opportunities to improve, evident by the adjustments he makes in response to instructor and peer-reviewed activities. These classroom behaviors indicate strong skills in leadership that he can use throughout his educational and career endeavors. John is a very kind and polite student, and it is clear to me he is a person of substantial character and integrity. John demonstrates passion and commitment to his education as well as his community. He has volunteered through numerous school clubs and organizations. Although he maintained a demanding schedule, he was also very committed to the PCHS Band and understands flexibility and balance in his pursuits. John is a superior candidate with a record of achievement. I recommend John for a Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. He is an outstanding young man and is motivated to succeed in his academic and personal goals. For example, while in his independent research class, John cultured bacteria and performed tests to try and find a more efficient way to create bioethanol. John is an amazing student and will have an impact in whatever path he takes in life. Thank you for your time and consideration, due to the nature of virtual learning, John reached out to me. Sincerely, Tricia M. Pedersen Tricia Pedersen, Ed.S. Academy of Science, Research and Medicine Paulding County High School 1297 Villa Rica Hwy.
