I am writing to recommend Mr. Paeder ‘Pete’ Millians for a Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship. Mr. Millians is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical Specialization at Mercer University. He is currently in the first part of the first year of his studies. He is one of my first-year advisees and a member of the Engineering Honors Program for which I am the Director. As his first-year advisor, I see Pete every week in the First Year Experience course. It is clear to me that he is making his academic commitments a priority but is also finding time to embrace opportunities to get involved with technical clubs like the Machine Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory as well as participating in intramural sports. The freshman-year of the Engineering Honors Program at Mercer University is structured around independent and group ‘skill-building’ activities as well as laboratory experiences with School of Engineering faculty. The skill building activities include woodworking, basic electronics, microcontrollers, computer-aided design, and laser cutting/etching. The first several weeks of this semester focused on building circuits controlled with an Arduino microcontroller. Pete has pursued this activity enthusiastically. I believe that he is approaching the undergraduate college experience as an opportunity to develop his intellect and expand his knowledge base. I have found Mr. Millian’s personal character to be without reproach. He has demonstrated himself to be a diligent, conscientious, and courteous individual. Pete understands professional conduct and etiquette but also knows how to relax and laugh. I believe that he has all of the skills required to succeed in his pursuit of an engineering degree and develop into an outstanding practicing engineer. I fully recommend that you support his potential with a scholarship from the Georgia Engineering Foundation. If you have any further questions regarding his application, please feel free to contact me directly at 478-301-2044 or mccreanor_pt@mercer.edu.
