To whom it may concern, I have known Aman Boricha-Masand for four years, since he asked me to sponsor the science fair project he undertook when he was in 9th grade. Since then he has taken my 10th-grade physics class at the Academy for Classical Education and joined two extra-curricular activities that I supervise, the Interact Club and the Soap Box Derby team. Throughout this time he has proved himself to be a talented and conscientious student. Aman is an exceptional performer in the classroom, but his energetic pursuit of extracurricular activities is what really makes him stand out. Take the science fair, for example. At ACE participation is voluntary. (I support this policy, because I formerly worked in a district that made science fair projects mandatory for students as young as fourth grade. The effect was to make students and parents hate science.) For the last three years Aman has been the only ACE student to do a science fair project. He has achieved remarkable success at district and regional competitions. For this year’s project, he found that combining essential oils had a remarkable effect on the growth of bread mold. This project won him an invitation to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in California. Aman has taken the most challenging courses offered at ACE and has maintained an A average. He has competed in tennis, swimming, and karate and devoted much of his time to community service projects, such as ringing a bell for the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas fund-raising drive. In conclusion, I do not hesitate to recommend Aman Boricha-Masand as a young man of extraordinary ability and character. Sincerely, Daniel E.
