Dear Application Committee, I am pleased to write a letter of recommendation for Olivia Hood. I was her AP Statistics teacher, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, and National Honor Society adviser during her senior year of high school. I have known Olivia for the past three years. As a student Olivia demonstrates a love for learning and a strong commitment necessary to succeed in college and beyond. As her teacher and adviser, I have had an opportunity to observe her participation and interaction in class and outside of class. She is an outstanding student in all respects. Olivia is organized, focused and goal oriented which reflects in her performance as she accomplishes challenging tasks in a courteous and timely manner. She is a student who puts forth her best effort in all her endeavors. In the AP Statistics class, there were some instances when she did not perform as well as she expected in her assessments. While it would have been a more than satisfactory grade for most students, Olivia decided that she could do better. She came to me after school for remediation and to genuinely learn the concepts once more. There was no promise of extra credit points or an opportunity to retake the assessment but Olivia still followed through so she could learn from her mistakes. I run a rigorous class and her persistence in educating herself has helped her perform well in her academic classes. She has time and time again shown that she will not falter from her path of improvement. Olivia is a kind and helpful young woman and brings her positive attitude wherever she goes. In addition to her academics, she is a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), Rho Kappa (Social Studies Honor Society), and the Spanish Honor Society in the High School. In addition to having firsthand knowledge of Olivia’s academic commitment, I am also familiar with her education goals. In the future she sees herself working in a research team that works with amputees, therefore combining her love of medicine and her degree in biomedical engineering. She believes she can make a difference in the world, and in the lives of those she encounters and beyond. She wants to focus on research that can truly help humanity in the long run and as her teacher, I can envision her doing all of this and more. Thus, I wholeheartedly support her application. Olivia is well equipped to learn and grow from challenges that she is presented with. I feel confident that you will be impressed with her just as I am. I have great respect for Olivia and truly believe that she is a deserving candidate. Please contact me with any questions and let me know if I can provide additional information in support of this deserving student.
