VEYM is a non-profit organization under the leadership of the Catholic Church, and its aim is to teach youths to be virtuous people and good Christians. It also offers apostolate services for the youth. Vincent Nguyen has requested that I write this reference letter on his behalf. I have known Vincent for 10 years in my capacity as a former President and current VP of the Savannah chapter of the VEYM. Vincent has been my student in Sunday school and an active member of my VEYM class. He is a thoughtful, highly motivated, and responsible young man with excellent leadership skills. Vincent is involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including volunteering at the Sts. Peter and Paul food drive, fundraising for the VEYM, and participating in the Christmas and Lunar New Year’s events in the Vietnamese community in Savannah, GA. He comes to Sunday mass every week with a friendly smile and a simple greeting, and he inspires respect from his peers. During the pandemic, to show his concern and care for others, Vincent volunteered to video stream church services so that everyone could virtually watch the ceremony online. In Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) class, Vincent provided assistance every Sunday to encourage children in their Bible study. He loves to share his knowledge with others; for example, he created a video on the scientific topic of radiation and uploaded it to social media for his peers. In my class, Vincent was a great listener and showed his understanding of the lecture through his questions and comments. In group activities, he was very cooperative in sharing ideas, willing to help others, and able to communicate clearly. He is comfortable with himself and is well-recognized by his peer group. Vincent’s participation in our annual VEYM summer camp is a great example of his ability to be a quick decision maker and group leader. As a camp organizer assistant, he helped organize the treasure hunt, group competition, campfire Bible skits, and the talent show. He connected well with other groups during the three days of camping. It has been a pleasure to have him at our church community. I hold Vincent in the highest esteem, and recommend him for the Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarship application.
