Mohammed Nayeeb is a brilliant student and genial young adult. As a student at Columbus High School, he was active in many clubs and organizations. My interactions with Mohammed were entirely extracurricular. As a tenth grade student, Mohammed and several of his friends who were in my Latin classes joined the Academic Decathlon Team. He was a leader during practices and worked with the team as they pored over short stories and pieces of art. Each Tuesday at meetings, Mohammed brought a humorous approach to practice. I remember the team laughing as he practiced his speech about being humiliated by elementary school students in Minecraft. As an eleventh grade student, Mohammed joined the Junior Classical League even though he did not take Latin. He participated in JCL events and trips with excitement, dedication, and his trademark humor. Whenever anyone asked him what Latin class he was in, he would nod and change the subject. He took tests and joined contests whenever he was asked. He continued to participate in Academic Decathlon and as a junior joined the AP Capstone Program which he completed in his senior year with an independent research project. Mohammed maintained his academic performance and positivity throughout all the difficulties of lockdown and virtual Learning. Mohammed Nayeeb immigrated to the USA in middle school. He has adapted and overcome all obstacles which have arisen. He has developed lasting bonds of friendship with an outstanding group of scholars. He has stretched the scope of his experience. From his tenth grade year until he crossed the stage at graduation, I worked with Mohammed Nayeeb through Academic Decathlon, Junior Classical League, Language testing, and the pandemic. He is a worthy scholar and a valuable asset to any campus community.
