September 29th, 2024 Dear Selection Committee, I am Valentina De La Fe, and I have had the privilege of serving Georgia Tech for the past 17 years in various roles. Throughout my time here, I have worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admission, recruiting and selecting Latino students, in OMED, where I developed retention programs for underrepresented minority freshmen and transfer students, and now in the Center for Engineering Education and Diversity, where I lead a peer mentorship program supporting undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented minorities in the Colleges of Engineering, Computing, and Sciences. It is my absolute pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Claudia Canovas. I first met Claudia when she arrived on campus this semester to pursue her studies in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering after graduating from one of the top schools in the state. From her very first day, she has taken on challenges with enthusiasm, excelling academically and fully immersing herself in campus life. Claudia is actively involved in the Peer-2-Peer Mentorship Program, a significant initiative that supports Black and Latino students in STEM fields at Georgia Tech. This program offers participants bi-monthly meetings focused on professional development, access to corporate sponsors, graduate school preparation, faculty research talks, campus resources, and academic enrichment. Since her arrival, I have witnessed Claudia’s remarkable growth. She is deeply committed to her degree, consistently takes advantage of the resources available to ensure her success and engages actively with the campus community. Not only has she excelled academically, but she has also adapted impressively to the challenges of living away from home. Claudia embodies qualities such as kindness, maturity, intelligence, and a strong work ethic. Her ability to think strategically, coupled with her dedication and perseverance, sets her apart. I am confident that Claudia Canovas will continue to thrive in any environment she steps into, and I wholeheartedly recommend her for this opportunity. Please feel free to contact me if you have further questions. My email is valentina.delafe@coe.gatech.edu. Very respectfully yours.
