September 19, 2024 To Whom It May Concern: I would like to recommend Ms. Valerie Ellis for Georgia Engineering Foundation Scholarships and/or Programs. I have known Valerie for the past two years. She was in my AP Physics 1 class her Junior year of high school, and scored a “4” on the exam in May. Her Senior year she continued to do the things that made her successful the previous year, but in my AP Physics with calculus course. Valerie is a great problem solver, but is not shy when it comes to asking for help with something she does not understand. She is a good advocate for her own learning, something many her age struggle to manage. She is also adept at changing course when something she is doing is not working. She is teachable and knows she does not know it all already. In a class of 30 highly talented students, Valerie stood out for her positivity, work ethic, and calm demeanor. She is never too high or too low. She is not grade-driven, but rather learning focused. Outside of class, Valerie was an AP Scholar with Distinction. She was a community advocate as well, participating in many school and national honor societies that benefited others through her volunteerism and fundraising. Having gotten to know Valerie through our weekly chats, I know how passionate she is about theater. She enjoys acting and does so through a local company. She is a pet lover and has rescued several dogs, having recently lost one to old age, but welcomed a new puppy and all of the joys/concerns that come with it. Valerie is interested in a career in STEM and can definitely reach that goal. I recommend Valerie Ellis, without reservation. Sincerely, Mr. Greg Marr AP Physics instructor, MCHS
