This scholarship has been established in memory of Joanne Frances (Eppard) Prien by her husband John D. Prien, Jr., PE, JD, a founder and Life Member of the Georgia Engineering Foundation, to preserve her long standing desire to aid the education of young people.
Joanne was a Life Member and Chapter President of a highly-regarded women’s organization, P.E.O, that was founded in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in 1869 by five college girls who wanted to create an entirely different sorority, one based principally on educating young women. True to the mission of promoting educational opportunities for women, education continues to be the primary philanthropy of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and Joanne desired to further those efforts by awarding scholarships in engineering to deserving women.
A graduate of Iowa State University, Joanne was also a Past President of the Auxiliary to the National Society of Professional Engineers as well as the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers. She was most proud of the fact that her father, her husband, her son, and soon one of her grandsons are all Engineers!
